2019 RAM 1500: Looking Ahead

August 18, 2017

The 2018 RAM 1500 has to come to Pischke Motors of La Crosse soon, doesn’t it? We’re pretty sure it only feels like we’ve been waiting forever for it. While we’re biding our time ’til we can offer it to our Onalaska and Winona, WI customers, we’ve also been getting news about the 2019 RAM 1500.

Here’s a little secret: when it gets here, the 2018 RAM 1500 is going to have a lot in common with the 2017 model it’s replacing. That’s because the 2019 model is the first of the truck’s next generation. After scouring several sources, here’s the most reliable information we’ve found so far:

  • Assembly will take place at Sterling Heights, MI, home of the Chrysler 200 before it was discontinued last year.
  • Unlike some big-name competitors, the RAM 1500 will rely almost exclusively on steel for its construction. The only exceptions are the aluminum-alloy hood and tailgate.
  • New generation, new look. You’ll see a new grille, new headlights, a re-styled tail, and a sleeker look than before between the bumpers.
  • Among the new amenities and luxury features inside, look for a much larger UConnect display. It’s likely that the infotainment system will get an update for its new “digs.”
  • Also look out for a Mega Cab option. Previously only available on heavy-duty RAM trucks, Car and Driver says it should come to the RAM 1500 when the new model arrives.
  • A direct-injected V-6 engine is supposedly on tap, which should lead to at least one trim that’s targeted at highway driving and fuel economy.
  • The truck’s first public appearance will probably be in January 2018 at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. More information, including release date, specs, and price, should come out around that time.
