Introducing the Jeep® Cherokee with the “River in the City”

February 13, 2015

Jeep® is known for their creative advertising campaigns and this time they took it to a another level – literally, mountain level. A city street was transformed into a forest and used to film a new commercial called “River in the City”. Want to know more about this innovative campaign? Keep reading!

Jeep thought “River in the City” would be the perfect way to introduce the 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Drivers were asked to test the SUV and follow directions from the navigation system. They were surprised when the directions led to the city block transformed into forest and allowed them to experience the capabilities of the Jeep Cherokee. This was no easy feat! To transform the city street into a forest it took 1,000,000 pounds of boulders, rock and sand (2,500 sand bags to be exact), 250,000 gallons of water, 400,000 pounds of snow, 80 trees and two wolves. Jeep assures us the wolves were domesticated.

“We wanted to bring to life the real world capabilities of the Jeep Cherokee in a unique approach,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, FCA – Global. “So how do you do that? By taking what is essentially an experiential event where unsuspecting drivers are being filmed navigating a busy metropolitan street that has been turned into a fully functional mountain river and let them experience the capabilities of the Jeep Cherokee for themselves. Our ‘River in the City’ takes an untraditional approach to create a powerful statement that the Jeep Cherokee can handle anything a city throws at it.”
